Cereal Box Hockey Event Scores Big Prize for Charity!

The third time was the "lucky charm" for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition when the Hanson Brothers from Slap Shot fame helped "Play it Again" for Charity raise $12,000 in a seventies themed hockey event --- complete with cereal box surprises. Big Check picture

Paint the Rink Pink, "A Hat Trick Against Breast Cancer" was played on May 3rd at Twin Ponds EAST in Harrisburg. The event attracted over five hundred fans who set aside yard work to support the fight against breast cancer on a sunny and warm spring day. The event featured the original Hanson Brothers, ( aka - Steve Carlson, Jeff Carlson and Dave Hanson) joining the Harbour House Crabs and the Red Robin Robin’s in a melted down version of professional hockey complete with many "old time hockey moments," a charitable bounty, a Zamboni surfing side show and the area’s first ever --- goalie penalty shot by Steve Weller.

According to Rob Ziemba, Founder of "Play it Again" for Charity. "Our small hockey event generated $12,000 in donations which puts us right up there with many large corporate fundraisers -- and that’s something to be proud of. With the high cost of fuel and tough times right now, fans showed up, and opened up -- their wallets."

Ziemba added; "Our timing with the Hanson Brothers has been perfect for three years and it seems like we have created a new Hanson Brothers Booster Club in Central Pa, thirty-one years after the movie Slap Shot hit theaters. Since 2006, we have donated $19,600 to the PBCC -- not bad for two guys who organize an annual charity event, and who also love -- Slap Shot."

Jon Jehrio, Event Chairman added; "We all had a great time and we owe a lot of gratitude to our players who stepped up helped us reach our goal of $10,000. We set the bar pretty high and to exceed a goal like that by twenty percent says a lot about our players and their families, our loyal sponsors and fans. The players took our mission to the work place which really helped us exceed our goal. The support from our sponsors and teams like the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and the NHL Front Office made this year’s event, that much more special.
