Your volunteer participation is an invaluable
resource. As a grassroots, non-profit organization,
we are always in need of creative, organized
individuals who are willing to devote some valuable
time and energy to help with all aspects of our
work. There are many ways to become involved
with the PBCC -- please submit the Volunteer
Survey and we will contact you about upcoming
opportunities.
These
are the types of volunteers the PBCC needs.
Please keep this in mind as you complete the
Volunteer Survey.
Health
Fair - The
PBCC is frequently invited to have an information
table at health fairs across the state. If a
staff member is not available to "man"
that table, we draw on volunteers in that area to
help.
Speaker -
Often, the PBCC
is asked to send a speaker to talk about breast
cancer, a personal survivor's story, or the role
of the PBCC. These events might take place
in a church, sorority, at a conference, etc.
If an event is outside of the South Central PA or
Philadelphia areas, it is often difficult for a
staff member to travel there. Volunteers who
are knowledgeable about breast cancer (especially
survivors), who know about the work of the PBCC
and are comfortable speaking in public are always
needed for these types of events.
Office Work
- Occasionally
volunteers are needed to help stuff envelopes,
make copies, run errands, or do other tasks
in the Ephrata office. At that time, we look
for someone in the Ephrata/Lancaster area who
would like to help during normal office hours.
PA Breast Cancer
Coalition Annual Conference
- If you've ever
been to our annual conference, you know that it
could not be done without volunteers. This
event occurs every October, over a 2-day period in
Harrisburg. Volunteers "man" the
marketplace and information booths, sell 50/50
tickets, direct people to various events, and
generally do what the staff does not have time to
do on that hectic day!
Exhibit
Committee Member - The
PBCC's traveling photo exhibit, "67 Women -
67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in
Pennsylvania™" travels to approximately 6
communities across the state each year. In
each of those communities, organized and
enthusiastic committees are needed to help
organize the opening reception and the events
surrounding the 10-day exhibit.
Focus Groups - The PBCC is always looking for opinions on how we can continue to improve and evolve. Focus group volunteers will serve as our sounding board for new ideas regarding our annual conference, new fundraising ideas, and various other programs. If you check your email frequently, and are interested in sharing your opinion with us, consider being a Focus Group volunteer!
PBCC County
Captain - The
PBCC spreads information to all corners of the
state using a grassroots network of volunteer
County Captains. County Captains are our
front lines in each of their respective counties:
they help with fundraisers in their area, think of
ways to raise money for our mission, are invited
to local events, and disseminate vital info in
their communities. It is our goal to have
one or two active County Captains in each of PA's
67 counties. We may be looking for one
in yours!
